In that case you have a washing machine connection. If you don't have a washing machine or if you are going away for a while, it is best to turn off the water tap to avoid water damage.

Do you live in a non-self-contained room?
There is a washing machine and tumble dryer on each corridor. You make use of these together. Preferably use liquid detergent (but don't use too much). This is better for the washing machine. Used a tumble dryer? Then clean the filter.
